BIPOSA 2017 Information for e-posters

Please read this information sheet carefully and take note of the advice given. If you are unsure about anything then please ask.

Specifications and creating your e-poster

The posters will be viewed on 50-inch HD widescreen screens (not touch screen), so please bear this in mind when creating your poster. Please refer to the good practice section below for more detailed information.

Format – We are not accepting traditional hanging posters only e-posters. Please read the following information very carefully. We have detailed below the only acceptable format that your e-poster should be in. If it isn’t in this format it cannot be accepted as it will not display correctly and we are enforcing rigorous quality control at this meeting.

Only acceptable format – Your e-poster submission should be a one slide PowerPoint file created using a widescreen format template.

Naming your file – Save your file naming it with the title of your eposter (use the title that was submitted on your abstract as changes are not acceptable).

Deadline – We require one Microsoft PowerPoint slide by the deadline of 12 noon on Friday 15th September 2017.

Slide Master Format – When creating your e-poster, please create it in widescreen format. This format is the default format for Microsoft Office 2013 and latest versions.  If you are using an earlier version of PowerPoint you should change the slide size from standard to widescreen. Failure to do this will result in your slides displaying incorrectly. If you require a template you can download one from here

Font – Text should be minimum Arial or Times New Roman 10 point size for optimal viewing. Headings and titles should be between point sizes 12-16

Images – should be the highest possible resolution for optimal viewing

Video – can be included – MAXIMUM time of 90 secs. The video MUST be embedded in the eposter and be set to run on a loop (there is no user control available)

Audio – can be included – please make us aware that you require audio

Multimedia and Animation – can be included (eg animation on a chart or graph, scrolling text) which runs automatically on a loop – (there is no user control available)

Internet – internet or hyperlinks cannot be included

Good practice for producing an electronic poster:

1. The poster should be one slide (widescreen template in landscape orientation) made up of no more than SIX individual sections
2. Each section should be brief and to the point
3. For case series, studies and audits the sections should follow: introduction, methods, results, discussion, significance / conclusion
4. For interesting case reports, sections should follow: history, clinical findings, management, result/outcome, conclusion
5. Adopt the motto of Mies van der Rohe: “Less is more”
6. Don’t put more than 6 bullet points per section
7. Don’t put more than six words per line / bullet point
8. Avoid wrapping the text, use of paragraphs – this isn’t an essay
9. A lot of text on your poster detracts from your message
10. Text: avoid all upper case even in titles
11. Text should contrast with background i.e. white, bright yellow text if using a dark background or black text (not blue) if using white / pale background
12. Background should be plain – avoid borders etc
13. Body text should be minimum Arial or Times New Roman point size 10 for optimal viewing
14. Images should be scanned at highest resolution possible
15. Video should be high quality and maximum length of 90 secs (looped automatically)
16. Use charts and graphs (very poster friendly) but remember to use large text size on legends / lables
17. Limit multimedia use or scrolling text as it can be distracting
18. References – in large, readable text otherwise don’t include

Failure to submit your e-poster by 12 noon on Friday 15th September 2017 will mean that your e-poster will NOT be included at the meeting. We are providing viewing stations that have a programmed menu and our technicians require ample time to set all the stations. Once you have submitted your e-poster by the deadline it cannot be changed.
